Pros
Mission is great. Stable funding model and the pay is the best in the state.
Cons
No communication. Managers and on up accept no thought what front line staff are going through and they refuse to care or make annihilation amend for them. Hour is a joke.
-
Old Employee, more 3 years
Pros
Benefits are good, meet tons of hard-working, experienced people.
Cons
Direction doesn't care about employees, employees are overworked and extremely underpaid for what they're expected to do, I witnessed an abundance of racism from management and staff towards both other staff members and patrons. Senior staff of the aforementioned position with talk down to, boss around, and generally neat their younger peers, staff without degrees are treated as expendable while staff with degrees (Engagement) tin exercise no wrong, depression level staff are expected to know things earlier they're announced and punished if they don't. I worked for Metro for nigh 3 years and was treated poorly everywhere I went, I was talked downwardly to past my peers on a daily ground, when I reported racism and discrimination to management they ignored my claims. Turnover is high and schedules are strict, if you ask for a schedule change and it's agreed to (rare) it will exist thrown in your face at every opportunity, when staff leave positions are left unfilled for months and other staff are expected to selection up the slack with no recognition or accommodation. Management doesn't care about patrons, they're worried more nearly policy and covering for themselves than accommodating patrons and assisting them, if you endeavour to prioritize patrons you volition be punished for doing so. On many occasions management let patrons get away with anything; racism, homophobia, harassing staff, staying in the building 15+ minutes later close, just taking fines off accounts, releasing prints jobs, or helping a customer for more than than 15 minutes volition become staff in trouble with management. I would non recommend working hither to anyone, merely particularly not members of the LGBT+ community or POC.

Business Outlook
Pros
It is groovy to serve the community. Benefits aren't bad, but not extraordinary every bit compared to other companies. They call back they are, but not actually with the expectation of retirement. Some leaders are trying to practise skillful and care, simply it is far and few betwixt. Not sure how many directors they have had in the final vii-10 years, simply it has been more than than 1 from the 'stories' people tell. Like a revolving door. Is there hope with the new one, maybe but it is going to take a lot of fourth dimension unless he cleans house in one dive.
Cons
Leadership is lacking; talk the talk - but don't walk the walk; lack of respect at all levels. Leaders forget they are there to lead, some are besides scared based on getting in problem. Takes forever with besides many chefs to get anything done. Movement is deadening. Growth opportunities are limited. Young people want to exist developed as I don't know the means of job, that doesn't happen hither, which is surprising existence a library. Perchance at levels above me they get to develop every bit the upper chaff, simply it doesn't trickle downwardly. If you apply, don't give up because it takes months to get hired, and so one day POOF you get a call. If you are lucky you will already accept found some other job and non be desperate enough to accept this one.
